Mobile Application Development for Early Detection of Diabetes Mellitus Using Sensor Technology

A research team from Airlangga University has developed a sensor-based mobile application for early detection of diabetes mellitus. The application utilizes a biosensor integrated with a smartphone to measure a user's blood glucose levels in real time without the need for invasive blood tests.

This app is designed to make it easier for diabetes patients or those at high risk to monitor their blood sugar levels at any time. The sensor uses a non-invasive measurement principle and can provide results quickly, reducing reliance on traditional medical devices.

During the testing phase, the app was piloted on 200 users in the Surabaya area. The results showed that the app had an accuracy rate of up to 931 TP3T in accurately detecting blood glucose levels, compared to laboratory blood tests. Furthermore, the app provides healthy lifestyle recommendations, such as diet and exercise, based on the blood sugar measurements.

One of the advantages of this application is its ability to continuously monitor glucose data, with results integrated directly into a digital health data management system. This allows doctors and other healthcare professionals to remotely monitor patients' conditions, improving treatment efficiency and preventing diabetes complications.

Researchers propose that this application be published and made available to the general public, leveraging advances in 5G technology to accelerate real-time data transmission to medical centers. This research aims to reduce the number of diabetes sufferers and improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
